Naples Depot – Lionel Train Museum

On the quest for another perfect day…and we found one last Friday!

It’s just that kind of perfect day that happens with little or no planning (these are always the very best perfect days)! This perfect day had no school, lots of time to kill and happy babies and pre-schoolers! So the three of us met up with Jordan and his cool mom, Karen at the Lionel Train Museum at the Naples Depot.

I’ve been living in Naples since I was four. Of course, my wanderlust has taken me far from Naples to places like New Orleans, St. Petersburg and Sarasota, but we always come back! And in all that time, I never knew about the totally cool train museum until Jordan’s mom invited us to come along.

Naples Depot Train Museum

Helena loved the weather that day…it was cool, for Florida anyway. The sky looked like a jewel and the air was crisp. I wish all days were like that day….

The museum grounds includes an original 1909 Soo Line Caboose and 1947 Club Car. One of these cars houses a gift shop. We haven’t actually ever gone in, but I’m sure they have some neat stuff.

Authentic Train Cars

One of Ali and Jordan’s favorite things to do here of course is ride the scale train. Pretty patient waiting, huh!

Waiting for the train!

Here’s one of the trains you can ride…..Jordan usually has to ride by himself since I have to carry Helena and Ali sits with Jordan’s mom. The train goes around the depot twice and runs right along US41 traffic. And of course, we are usually moving faster than traffic!

The Train!

Helena is at that age where everything she sees is magical, shiny, new and definitely worth putting in her mouth. She leaves no stone unturned!

Helena's hunting for treasure!

Inside is a great multi-level Lionel train display in action. The detail is amazing and there are all sorts of buttons to push to make things happen. There are lights, airplanes, rides, people working, trains zooming by, animals, cars, music….the detail is really incredible.

Another perfect day……Astrid

Ryan and Daniela

Ryan and Daniela's first danceRene and I had the honor to start our wedding season off by photographing Ryan and Daniela’s wedding at the Naples Grande Beach Resort.

The wedding was storybook perfect, with a perfect beach wedding and the kind of sunset that makes Naples the envy of the rest of the country!

Everything was held at the Naples Grande Beach Resort, which used to be the old Registry. Rene and I used to walk the boardwalk at the Registry when we were in high school. It’s a long and romantic walk all the way down to the beach. The Grande still has that boardwalk and it takes you to one of the best beaches in Naples.

The Naples Grande has become one of our favorite places to shoot. It has a wonderfully contemporary style and a modern attitude, which is frankly quite refreshing. Naples has long been overdue for a style makeover at many of its top venues and the Naples Grande has set the bar!

Daniela had the Grande design both her cake and her flowers. I’ve seen a lot of wedding cakes, but this cake was spectacular! It was a real work of art!

All the vendors for Daniela’s wedding really put on their very best, so I thought I would share some of them here:

  • All floral decorations were created by the floral department at The Naples Grande
  • Centerpieces: White Hydrangea, Dendrobium Orchids and Bear grass
  • Bride’s bouquet: Phalaenopsis Cascading Orchids
  • Girl’s bouquets: Dendrobium Orchids
  • Music: Band from Orlando called Celebration, booked through JDR Productions in Naples
  • Linens: Connie Duglin Linens
  • Dress: Anjolique from Tie the Knot Bridal (Bride’s note: This store truly is the best for dresses, they have hundreds of dresses all priced between $1000 and $5000)
  • Shoes: Grace from Tie the Knot
  • Headpiece and Veil: Tie the Knot
  • Hair and Makeup: Felix Andrew Salon
  • Bridesmaid Dresses: BCBG at Bloomingdales

Ramblings by two

After much tweaking, editing and playing, our new blog is up!

It’s truly been a labor of love for me. I love design, graphic design, art and anything pretty, so the eye-candy definitely makes it hard for me to stop tinkering. But needless to say, Rene put his foot down and I finally put the brakes on and published!

I’m Astrid…and together with my husband Rene, we are Astrid and Rene Photography. We are fine art wedding photographers based out of Naples, Florida and we love what we do! We photograph people in love with each other, in love with their kids and in love with life…..

This is our blog….where we are always on the quest for the perfect day!
